Our patients lead very busy lives. We can see it when they struggle to find an appointment in the near future that will fit into their schedule. Between their jobs and their children’s activities, there seems to be less and less time to squeeze in an hour or two for the dentist.
But your dental appointments are important. If you cannot get here for your regular semi-annual visits you will risk dental problems developing that will actually require that you spend more time with us.
Don’t get it wrong, we love to see you, but we want you to have healthy teeth so we would prefer that we have to see you less frequently. We are here to make sure your teeth are in good shape and try to prevent problems from occurring or ensure that we catch problems early when they are simpler to fix. You see your physician once a year to be sure problems with your body are caught early and treated. We serve the same function for your mouth, teeth, and gums.
So What Can I Do To Make Sure I Show Up?
Our first suggestion is to make the appointment well in advance. For example, when you come in for your first appointment of the year, make your next appointment before you leave. The advantage of doing this is first, that you don’t have to remember to do it. The second advantage is that this time period is now blocked out.
Many people have smartphones these days. These phones have calendar features that let them put appointments or reminders into their phone. It also lets you set a time for the phone to alert you about a future appointment. This will help you to keep track of the fact that you have an appointment and it will also make sure you are notified about it so you don’t forget. But you should not stop there because you also have work and your family’s appointments and activities to keep track of.
You may do this on a home calendar. If you have a calendar at home that you write appointments and activities on make sure you add our dental appointments. That way, if you are invited to do something a couple of months in advance or you get a schedule of your child’s games, you can see right away if there is a conflict.
